History of the Hiryusai
Our school began 10 years ago, and the Hiryusai festival has been held every year since then. At first, it was simply called The School Festival, and it was in sore need of a proper title. Before the 4th Hiryusai (held in 1999), it was decided that the festival would be named the Hiryusai (meaning Flying Dragon Festival), and the festival has grown with its name ever since then.
You can see a collection of some of the previous visitor's guides at our school website.
Clubs, independently organized groups and all classes participate in the Hiryusai, creating a vibrant mix of performances and exhibits.
Theme
A festival theme is decided every year, helping create a streamlined mood for all the programs. The candidates for the theme are collected from the whole school, and a vote is held to decide the theme for that year.
Themes in the past:
1998 | iron will |
1999 | Freedom |
2000 | Revolution |
2001 | 極 (Kiwami = the sublime) |
2002 | Fantasista |
2003 | 無限∞ (Mugen = infinity) |
2004 | 和洋折衷 (Wayo-sechu = a blend of Japanese and Western cultures) |
Website
At the Hiryusai Committee, we've been creating festival websites every year since 2002.
Last year's website is available here. Unfortunately, the previous two websites have faded away into cyberspace history.
